Royal Wedding: Zara Phillips Married Mike Tindall in Edinburgh, Scotland
Posted on July 31, 2011
>Edinburgh, Scotland, was the site of another royal wedding this weekend. Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter, Zara Phillips, married rugby star Mike Tindall. Zara is the daughter of Princess Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phllip.
Zara carries no royal title and her mother, The Princess Royal, refused honorary titles when she and her brother were born, preferring to keep them out of the limelight. Although she is not a princess, Zara is thirteenth in line to the British throne. She is Prince William and Prince Harry's first cousin. She is an ardent horsewoman and has represented Great Britain in the Olympics. She also carries out royal duties, and is the patron of a number of charities.
The ceremony was held in the church on Edinburgh's Royal Mile, Canongate Kirk. After the ceremony, the guests attended a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Queen Elizabeth's official Scottish home. All the royals were there for the ceremony, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Catherine, clearly not wanting to upstage the bride, wore a cream coat dress by Jane Troughton which she also wore to the wedding of Laura Parker Bowles to Harry Lopes in 2006.
Zara looked lovely for her wedding day. She wore an ivory silk faille and duchesse satin gown made by Stewart Parvin, the Royal couturier who dresses Queen Elizabeth. The gown featured a flattering chevron pleated corseted bodice, with bias-cut raw edged ribbons of top-stitched silk faille and duchess satin decorating the neckline and empire seam. The straps are made of delicate silk tulle. The full skirt has concealed pockets, a band of silk duchesse satin at the hem and a short train. The gown features fabric covered buttons down the center back. The cathedral-length veil is made of tulle.
Zara wore the Meander tiara, which was loaned to her by her mother, Princess Anne. The diamond tiara features a Greek Key design, and was once owned by Prince Philip's mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. Princess Anne also loaned her daughter some diamond earrings for her big day. Zara carried a bouquet of white calla lillies by London florist Paul Thomas. Evangelos Tsiapkinis at Michael John did Zara's hair and her makeup was by Bobbi Brown. The bride wore shoes by Jimmy Choo. Take a look:
