Winona Ryder and the Case of the Missing Bulgari Jewelry
Posted on November 29, 2008
Winona Ryder was loaned a diamond-encrusted bracelet and ring from Bulgari jewelers reportedly worth over $125,00. Ryder wore the jewelry to a Marie Claire party in Madrid last Sunday. Bulgari jewelers say that Winona has not yet returned the jewelry. Reports suggest that Winona Ryder claims to have handed the Bulgari jewelry to her hotel in an envelope for safe-keeping. However, the New York Post writes that a French gossip magazine named Voici says no hotel surveillance cameras captured Ryder turning in an envelope to hotel's front desk and hotel staff don't remember Ryder turning in the jewelry. Bulgari has asked Madrid police to investigate the matter.
Ryder told Bulgari jewelers that she misplaced their gems, which had been out on loan, after wearing them at a Marie Claire bash in Madrid on Sunday, according to the French celebrity-news magazine Voici. It's not a good situation for Ryder considering her arrest for shoplifting in a Saks Fifth Avenue in 2001. We hope the jewels turn up and somehow Ryder is blameless. Winona did suffer from an in-flight illness a week ago so maybe she is just confused about the location of the jewelry. So far Ryder's PR reps have remained quiet. The "Girl, Interrupted" star - convicted in 2002 of shoplifting in Beverly Hills - claimed she lost the precious stones after handing them in an envelope to her hotel's front desk for safe keeping.
But Voici reported no hotel surveillance cameras captured Ryder giving the jewels to front-desk personnel.
Bulgari has asked police in Madrid to investigate, according to Voici.
