Video: Priya Krishna Makes Tomato Rice with Crispy Cheddar

Indian-American food journalist makes Tomato Rice with Crispy Cheddar in this video from The Dish Recipe series on CBS Mornings. The recipe comes from The New York Times.

The simple recipe calls for 1 onion, 1 green chile pepper, 10 plum tomatoes, 3 cups cooked basmati rice and 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese.

Priya Krishna advises not speeding through the onion step - make sure they develop a char. The onions need to be chopped or you can use canned tomatoes.

You need to cook the tomatoes so they stay chunky - don't turn it into a puree. Cheddar is added to the dish before putting it in the oven broiler for 3 minutes at 500 degrees.

It looks very tasty. A good vegetarian dish.
