Posted on October 19, 2013

The violin that was reportedly played as the Titanic sunk has been sold for $1.7 million at an auction in London. The violin is believed to have belong to bandmaster Wallace Hartley. It is the most ever paid for an item from the doomed luxury ship.

Reuters reports that the violin was purchased by a British collector whose identity has not been revealed.

Alan Aldridge, the Principal Auctioneer for Henry Aldridge and Son, says the violin represents bravery.
