Southwest is ending its open seating policy. It will change to assign seats. Southwest has been using open seating for decades.
The change will bring a sigh of relief to many Southwest travelers.
Southwest says in a press release that 80% of Southwest customers prefer an assigned seat. Southwest says it will also offer an extended legroom portion of the cabin for an extra fee.
