Six Flags St. Louis has launched its new VR roller coaster. The roller coast, called The New Revolution Virtual Reality (VR) Coaster, makes use of virtual reality technology using Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus.
Riders wear the Samsung Gear headsets while on the ride. They find themselves in the copilot seat of a fighter jet as they battle aliens to save the world. The VR footage shows the fighter jet darting between buildings and performing acrobatics. The footage is in sync with the movement of the roller coaster.Peter Carmichael, Six Flags St. Louis park president, says in a statement, "Six Flags is known for the innovative thrills we bring to our guests. And now we are taking it to the next level by merging reality with the virtual world to deliver an unparalleled coaster experience. This really does change everything."
Riders can also shoot at alien targets using a touch pad on the side of the headsets. The New Revolution ride opened on May 29th.
