Video: Restoration Hardware Criticized for Mailing 17 Pound Catalogs to Customers

Posted on June 12, 2014

Restoration Hardware has mailed its catalogs, called source books, to customers. This year it sent out its 13 source books to customers in one big stack that weighs 17 pounds.

The Restoration Hardware leather and furniture source books are pictured above. There are 13 catalogs in all containing over 3,000 pages of product information.

Restoration Hardware describes its source book mailings as a sustainable initiative in an article on its website. It says it uses forest certified paper from sustainable forests. It also says its shipping is carbon neutral.

Gary Friedman, CEO of Restoration Hardware, says the catalogs "represent the only current visible manifestation of our brand, and cannot yet be replaced by the Internet."

This information has not stopped critics from sharing images of the large stacks of catalogs on social media sites. CBS This Morning reports on some of the backlash on Twitter.
