Video: Original 1992 Lithuania Tie Dye Basketball Jerseys to be Reissued for 20th Anniversary

Posted on August 10, 2012

Skullman.com has announced the 20th anniversary reissue of the original 1992 Lithuania Tie Dye basketball jerseys. The basketball dunking Skullman image on Tie Dye uniforms, worn by the 1992 Lithuanian Men's Olympic Basketball Team, became part of sports history during the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. The Lithuanian Basketball Team captured a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics.

The new 20th Anniversary Edition is an exclusive release of the original jersey with the same iconic Slam-Dunking Skeleton front. The back of the shirt is imprinted with the 2012 Anniversary year and skeletal hands slam dunking a flaming basketball.

The design was created independently by Olympic sports artist Greg Speirs in 1992, who donated 100% of his profits that year from the sale of jerseys to become the major funder of the 1992 Men's Lithuanian Olympic Basketball Team. The team's 1992 Olympic story is now documented in the soon to be released 2012 movie, The Other Dream Team.

Spears explained in a 2017 release that the skeleton is more like a Phoenix. He says, "Like a Phoenix from the ashes to slam-dunking a basketball to bronze victory. It's not a dead skeleton at all, but this skeleton represents rebirth and a new life. It was not only a victory in Olympic sports, but it was as if it were a triumph over communism itself."

We love this design.
