Lanvin: RTW Spring 2011

Posted on October 2, 2010

For his spring 2011 ready to wear collection for Lanvin, Alber Elbaz was focused on creating a "second skin." The entire collection was of stretch fabric, even the gorgeous Fortuny-inspired pleats. Day dresses, separates, and cocktail dresses all were body-conscious, but in a refined and elegant way.

The palette was in broad strokes. Alber has always said he designs for real women, and there was something for every skintone. There were beige, slate, brown and taupe, jewel tones of purple, red and orange, and some bright fuchsia. The cocktail dresses were black, bejeweled and gorgeous. He showed some fabulous flat sandals and some gorgeous high heels, as well. The models were allowed to wear the flats if they felt they would have trouble walking in the heels, which has to be some kind of fashion first.

Alber closed the show with five black models walking together, wearing gorgeous silk evening gowns. He was certainly making a statement about the lack of diversity on the runways this year, and the audience certainly appreciated it. We certainly did, and just loved the collection.
