Video: Karl Lagerfeld Talks Chanel Spring 2011 Collection
Posted on October 5, 2010
Karl Lagerfeld sat down with Hilary Alexander to chat about his spring 2011 ready to wear show for Chanel. Karl said that his fall 2010 collection was all about fake fur and his spring collection has moved on to feathers.
He says the fabrics in the show are varied and unique. Fabric has changed quite a bit, he says, and he has been using lots of new materials, such as metal fibers woven into fabrics and other new items. He says when you do a classic silhouette in old fabrics, it looks old. But if you use new fabrics and techniques, it looks fresh.
Karl said women don't want to wear those loud orange and yellow prints we've been seeing everywhere; he went with a soft pastel palette. The set is based on the classic 1961 film, Last Year at Marienbad. The garden set features a giant fountain in the middle, white paths, black hedges (the film was in black and white) and a full orchestra. He denied that he and Chanel 80s house model Ines de la Fressange ever had a falling out, and he said she was given the only long gown in the collection to wear. Take a look:
