Dolce & Gabbana: RTW Spring 2011
Posted on September 29, 2010
Stefano Gabbana described the Dolce and Gabbana Spring 2011 ready to wear show as inspired by a typical trousseau of a Southern Italy bride.
This bride amassed a gorgeous trousseau, full of lingerie, table linens and dresses for her new life. But she changes her mind at the last minute and calls off the wedding. With this story in mind, Dolce and Gabbana created a gorgeous collection that Stefano says is 90% white with some black and some leopard pieces. The models wore giant gold hoop earrings and wore fabulous large charm necklaces and bracelets.
There are gorgeous day dresses and separates that use the tailoring traditions (such as lace, embroidery and cutouts) used in high end bed linens, bedspreads and tablecloths. The fabrics for the collection were a range: extra light linen and linen organza, poplin, muslin, silk, crochet, macrame, chiffon, brocade and stretch chiffon all were used. Embroidery, crystals and beading embellished the evening looks. Unlike some of the spring collections shown in Milan, there wasn't an orange clown suit or a purple harem pant to be found. Thank goodness.
