U.S. Census Bureau Says Illinois Produces the Most Pumpkins

The U.S. Census Bureau has shared some Halloween facts as the fun holiday approaches. Of the six top pumpkin producing states. Illinois is the clear leader. It produces over 556 million pounds of pumpkins. This is nearly 3 times as many as California, the second biggest pumpkin producing state. Here are some of the other facts shared by the Census Bureau:
- Number of potential trick-or-treaters in the U.S. - 41 million
- California leads the nation in the number of chocolate and cocoa manufacturing establishments with 122. They are followed by Pennsylvania with 109 and New York with 88.
- California also has the most non-chocolate candy producing businesses.
- 47,800 acres of pumpkins were harvested in the U.S. in 2012
- There are 1,197 costume rental and formal wear establishments in the U.S.
