Tracey Ross Boutique in West Hollywood to Close

Posted on December 26, 2008

The Tracey Ross Store, a hip boutique carrying designer labels in West Hollywood, will be closing its doors. The L.A. Times mentions a few of the many celebrities who have visited the store over the past two decades.

Ross opened her store on Robertson Boulevard in 1990 before moving up to Sunset Plaza in 1996. The hipper-than-thou boutique has drawn a dedicated following of top stylists and celebrities, such as Ashlee Simpson, Jessica Simpson, Mary Kate Olsen, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, who needed a police escort to get outta Ross' Sunset Plaza store this past April.
Women's clothing and luxury products have been hard hit in the economy. A recent WSJ story reported women's apparel sales down 23% and luxury sales down 35% during this holiday season compared to last year's. ApparelNews lists other stores on Sunset Plaza that have closed recently.
When Ross shutters her boutique, which carried a wide variety of labels from Anna Sui to Juicy Couture, she will leave a Sunset Plaza that has been hit hard by the weak economy. More than three storefronts, not including Ross', were vacant on Christmas Eve. Sunset Plaza's popular D&G store closed at the end of November. D&G, a line of the Dolce & Gabbana fashion house, opened a new flagship on Los Angeles' Robertson Boulevard on Dec. 15. Sunset Plaza owner and manager Montgomery Management Co. had no comment on Ross' departure.
Tracey Ross told WWD that the decision to close is because of the economy. The store will close on New Year's Eve.
