Toy Fair 2013 Opens in New York City
Posted on February 10, 2013
The 110th American International Toy Fair is underway in New York City. The city is still covered in snow following the recent blizzard, but the streets are clear.
The annual Toy Fair is owned and operated by the Toy Industry Association (TIA). It runs from February 10-13 this year. Over 150,000 toys and related products are on display from over 1,000 toy companies. The website for the Toy Fair is located at: toyfairny.com.
Carter Keithley, TIA President, said in a statement, "The American International Toy Fair is the world's one-and-only gateway to all of the creativity, innovation and talent originating in the North American marketplace. From big-name toy companies and top-selling retailers, to exciting new start-ups and specialty stores, Toy Fair provides our foreign and domestic guests with exclusive access to every aspect of this great industry."
The TIA says some of the trends this year include retro toys, DIY pop culture toys, physical toys with a virtual component, construction toys and compact, portable toys.
The Toy Fair kicked off with a live performance from the star of the Broadway musical, Annie. We also see Pac-Man and the Power Rangers standing nearby as the ribbon is cut. Here is a video from day one of Toy Fair 2013. Take a look:
