Thanksgiving is an American federal holiday that falls on the fourth Thursday in November. It is celebrated with family gatherings and a large feast. It dates back to a fall harvest feast celebrated by the early Plymouth colonists and the Indians. The first official Thanksgiving holiday was held in 1789 according to the entry on Wikipedia.
Thanksgiving is important to shoppers because Black Friday falls on the day after Thanksgiving with many of the deals beginning on Thanksgiving Day (or earlier). This time period also tends to have the lowest prices of the year on average.
