Stucchi Jewelers Creates Pin for Madeleine Albright

Posted on March 2, 2010

An amazing gold and lapis lazuli globe pin was designed by Garry Stucchi, owners of Stucchi Jewelers, and crafted by John Hardwood. The pin was made for former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. It was commissioned by Albright's alma mater, Wellesley College.

Madeleine Albright is renowned for her famous pin collection. She recently wrote a book about her diplomatic use of pins called Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat's Jewel Box.

Madeleine Albright's brooch collection was recently on display at the New York Museum of Arts and Design. She wore a snake pin when dealing with Iraq because Saddam Hussein once referred to her as an "unparalleled serpent." Many of Secretary Albright's pins are gifts from diplomats.

Stucchi Jewelry says, "The pin was designed to represent the globe without any focus one country or continent but rather a representation of the world as a whole. The continents in 14kt yellow are raised to give depth and dimension while the continents in white are palladium plated for contrast while surrounded by crushed lapis representing deepest blue of the ocean. Lapis is known throughout history as a stone that enhances the wisdom of anyone wearing it. The pin’s border is hand wrought, twisted 14kt gold."
