Hormel Foods has launched a museum for Spam, the canned meat it has been selling for 79 years. The museum is located in downtown Austin, Minnesota. The museum will be open 7 days a week.
The museum is located at 101 3rd Avenue NE, Austin, Minn. It will contain galleries, products and experiences. The exhibits include information about the product's popularity around the globe, the Spam brand today and its history with the military. The image below shows the military exhibit. The U.S. military purchased 150 million pounds of Spam for soldiers during World War II.
Spam Museum manager Savile C. Lord says in a statement, "It was important for Hormel Foods to have the museum in downtown Austin to support its growth and see this area become a destination for both city residents and tourists. We hope that the new downtown location will allow people to see all that Austin has to offer including great restaurants and shopping."
The website for the Spam Museum can be found here. It warns, "Please don't eat the exhibits."
