SNL Sketch Pokes Fun at Expensive Vitamix Blender
Posted on October 5, 2014
If you're a smoothie junkie, the Vitamix blender is the Rolls Royce of blenders. But they are insanely expensive and Saturday Night Live decided to poke a bit of fun at it and the people who simply will not stop talking about it.
Vanessa Bayer is a wealthy woman who is having her friend over for a chat. Sarah Silverman plays the friend. Bayer's character is the kind of woman who will not stop talking about her Vitamix blender. It makes kale smoothies. It can puree anything. It's quiet (well, not really). And it makes amazingly creamy nut butters. If you've ever heard someone who's into juicing wax rhapsodic about their Vitamix blender, you will find this sketch hilarious. If you haven't, it probably won't make a bit of sense.
When Sarah's character is offered a smoothie, she accepts and says how much she likes it. At this point the blender aficionado ("I use it everyday!") starts going on about the nut butters. When Sarah's character asks how much it costs, Vanessa is evasive..."oh, it's up there." This goes on until she reveals it costs around $650. This eventually breaks up their friendship as a conversation about a blender goes horribly wrong.
In case you're wondering, the Vitamix Professional Series 750 actually retails for $689 at Vitamix.com. But it's amazing. And you'll use it every day. We swear. And did we mention it makes really creamy nut butters? Take a look:
