Sarah Huckabee Sanders' 2 Year Old Son Ordered Batman Toy Using Amazon Alexa
Posted on January 16, 2018
U.S. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted on Saturday that her 2-year-old son used an Amazon Echo device to order a Batman toy. They toy was a collectible Square Enix Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice: Batman Play Arts Kai Action Figure. The purchase price was $79.99.
Sarah Sanders tweeted, "Alexa, we have a problem if my 2 year old can order a Batman toy by yelling "Batman!" over and over again into the Echo."
You can't order an item just by screaming the word at Echo so the order process must have been more complex than Sanders described in her tweet. Small children have managed to order items through Alexa. Many tech writers have pointed out that Amazon has settings to prevent this type of thing from happening.
You can toggle Alexa ordering off. You can also add a voice code that is required to complete Alexa purchases. TechCrunch notes that Alexa orders are also eligible for free returns in case an item is ordered by mistake.
More cynical writers have suggested Sanders is using the unwanted order as part of President Trump's increasing attacks on Amazon. Trump is critical of the Washington Post, which is owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Trump recently suggested the U.S. Post Office raise rates because it is not getting a good deal with Amazon. Amazon has not weighed in publicly on the tweet by the Press Secretary.
We hope the Sarah Huckabee's son gets a Batman toy in the future.
