Roberto Cavalli: RTW Spring 2011
Posted on September 27, 2010
This is Roberto Cavalli's 40th anniversary as a designer, so it was a special collection he said. He held the show in a tent at the Arco Della Pace. This natural setting was the backdrop for a collection full of soft colors, with a palette of grey, silver, seafoam green and pink. All the models wore their hair very long and straight.
Cavalli said for the collection technique was key and it was evident in the complicated fringed, embroidered and laced clothing that was presented. This is rich hippie chic as pioneered by Cavalli. The pants are low-slung and the dresses are floaty. Cavalli eschewed the bright colors for this collection saying he preferred the softer hues. Cavalli was inspired by his hometown Florence, and many artisans from the area worked on the collection. A number of celebrities were in attendance, including Taylor Swift, Leona Lewis, Rachel Bilson and Heidi Klum.
Here's a video from the fashion show. Be sure to watch until the very end when Hilary Alexander grills Leona Lewis on her nail polish (it's Essie, she can't remember the name of it) and get deets on her rings (they're all costume). Take a look:
