Cepia's Xia-Xia Hermit Crabs are a Hot Toy
Posted on October 26, 2011
Cepia LLC had a hit toy in 2009 with its ZhuZhu Pets toy. ZhuZhu Pets were even used by retailers on Black Friday in 2009 to lure consumers into stores. Cepia is trying to repeat its toy success with Xia-Xia, its line of toy hermit crabs, which feature removable, collectible shells. The company may be on the verge of repeating its ZhuZhu success. Cepia says it has been selling one of the toy hermit crabs every five seconds so far this year.
Bruce Katz, Senior Vice President of Sales, Cepia LLC, sayd, "Kids have cast their votes, and we are very fortunate that all indications point to Xia-Xia being a runaway hit this holiday season. Our data shows that one Xia-Xia is sold every five seconds in the US, the phones have been ringing off the hook, Google searches are on the rise and website visits are way above average for this time of year."
Toys R Us confirmed high demand for the toy hermit crabs. Lisa Harnisch, vice president, general merchandising manager, Toys R Us, says, "Ever since these collectibles hit Toys 'R' Us stores earlier this month, they've been quickly skittering off our shelves."
Here's a video about the Xia-Xia (pronouned Sha Sha) from TTPM.
