No Peeps for Halloween or Christmas This Year
Posted on September 12, 2020
There won't be any Peeps marshmallow treats for Halloween or Christmas this year or for Valentine's Day 2021. This is additional fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.
A report on PennLive.com says Peeps manufacturer Just Born is halting holiday production due to safety and production changes as a result of the virus outbreak. They expect to get back on track on for Easter 2021.
Halloween 2020 itself will also be diminished because of the coronavirus. Halloween results in large numbers of trick-or-treaters gathered around the doors of people handing out candy. Even with masks this is a scenario that would make it easy for the coronavirus to spread to both the trick-or-treaters and the adults handing out the candy.
Just Born says in a statement, "This situation resulted in us having to make the difficult decision to forego production of our seasonal candies for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day in order to focus on meeting the expected overwhelming demand for Peeps for next Easter season, as well as our everyday candies. We look forward to offering our fun seasonal shapes and packaging at all major seasons again beginning with Halloween of 2021."
Here's a video about the origins of the marshmallow Peeps that will hopefully return next Easter.
