Lego Birds Set Features Blue Jay, Hummingbird and Robin

Posted on December 13, 2014

A Lego bird set is coming in January. The set featured three highly detailed birds designed by Tom Poulsom. The three birds include a Blue Jay, Hummingbird and Robin.

The Lego birds set was first submitted as a Lego ideas set by Poulsom. It received over 10,000 votes from Lego Ideas members. The LEGO set includes building instructions and booklets about each species. The birds each have little stands. The hummingbird is hovering over a yellow flower.

Poulsom has been building with Lego bricks since he was five years old. He tells Lego Ideas in an interview that building the birds is a big challenge, but he loves it. He says, "The birds are a big challenge to build, building something to look organic from LEGO bricks is not easy, but it is a great challenge and one I enjoy very much. I like to think of LEGO as the best puzzle in the world."

This video shows some of the other Lego birds Poulsom has created, which include a kingfish, puffin, goldfinch and woodpecker. He says he has a substantial Lego collection. Poulsom talks about some unusual pieces he found from other sets to help design the interesting Lego birds. This video was made before the Lego Birds set became a reality. Take a look:

The set will cost $44.99 and arrive on January 1, 2015.
