Hydrox Cookies Return After Seven Year Absence

Hydrox cookies are returning to store shelves after a 7-year absence. The cookies were originally introduced in 1908, four years before the Oreo cookie. Leaf Brands calls its Hydrox cookies the "original sandwich cookie."

The cookies are made at a facility located in Vernon, CA. The company plans to keep Hydrox production in the U.S. Hydrox was originally manufactured by Sunshine Biscuits in 1908. It was purchased by Keebler in 1996 and renamed Droxies. Leaf acquired the trademark to Hydrox Cookies in 2014.

Leaf Brands CEO Ella Kassoff says in a statement, "You will notice the 'Other Guys' use high fructose corn syrup and other low quality ingredients because they're all about increasing margins, even if that means moving to Mexico. We think it's more important to sell an American-made product that only uses the best ingredients, that's why we rolled back the formula to a recipe which doesn't include any hydrogenated oils or HFCS which were added to the cookie when Kellogg's and Keebler owned it."

Leaf Brands says it is using the original recipe of the Hydrox from the 1908 to 1999 time period. The company is currently offering the cookies for sale on Amazon.com.
