Polaroid Launches Digital Instant Camera Called PoGo

Posted on January 8, 2009

Today Polaroid announced the launch of the Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Camera, which is the first digital camera and instant printer combination available in the U.S. and Europe. The camera will replace the much-loved instant cameras that are still used by many in the fashion industry. The camera takes a photo and prints a 2"x3" print in less than 60 seconds.

"This is the digital version of our traditional instant camera, which consumers have loved since the 70s," says Jon Pollock, vice president and general manager, Digital Imaging. "With this product, Polaroid will bring the magic of instant photography to a whole new generation. It's what consumers have told us they want -- a fun, easy way to use a digital camera to print photos and share their memories instantly."

The camera uses Zink photo paper and Zink Zero Ink printing technology, which Polaroid has been using for awhile in its portable photo printers. The camera measures 4.7-inches wide by 3-inches tall and weighs only 10 ounces.

You don't have to "shake it like a Polaroid picture" to increase drying time, but it won't hurt the print if you do, according to Polaroid. After all, shaking the print is part of the experience.

The camera will be available in March, 2009, for $199 at retailers nationwide. The Zink photo paper sells in a 30-pack for $12.99 and is already available.
