Peapod Launches Virtual Grocery Stores in Commuter Rail Stations

Posted on October 1, 2012

Peapod.com, an Internet grocer, has announced the launch of more than 100 virtual grocery stores at commuter rail stations in Boston, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Chicago. The billboards feature grocery aisles on train platforms.

The billboards also feature ready-to-serve and ready-to-cook items from restaurants and hometown brands. Commuters can shop for groceries and other items on the billboards by scanning the QR codes with their smartphones. Commuters will need the PeapodMobile app in order to shop the billboards.

The shoppable billboards could be a time saver for people with long commutes.

Mike Brennan, COO, Peapod, said in a statement, "With schedules that are more demanding than ever and people spending 200+ hours a year in transit, our hope is that consumers will take advantage of our virtual stores and mobile app while they're on the go and enjoy the time saved when they're at home."
