Paco Sosa is New York's Oldest Dog
Posted on September 3, 2009
A Manhattan dachshund named Paco Sosa is believed to be New York's oldest dog. Paco Sosa 20 years old this Saturday, September 5, which is 140 in human years. The world record holder - a dachshund named Chanel - died on August 28 in New York's Long Island, at age 21.
Paco exercises regularly and eats organic poultry, fish and fruit. He can frequently be seen in Central Park with his human companion, filmmaker and venture capitalist Bernadine Santistevan.
Dr. Talia Goldberg of Park East Animal Hospital believes some alternative therapies - including acupuncture - have also enabled Paco's longevity. Paco has been treated at Park East Animal Hospital since 1990. Paco also gets physical therapy sessions at The Animal Medical Center in Manhattan.
Dr. Talia Goldberg says, "A lot of it has to do with the care that Bernadine provides him. Acupuncture, physical therapy, Eastern therapy -- she goes well beyond for him." Thanks in large part to this comprehensive wellness program and to Bernadine being "in tune" with her dog, "Paco is still with us and in pretty good condition," said the New York veterinarian.
Update: Paco died at age 20 according to Gothamist.
