Oxfam Global Food Poll: Pasta is the World's Favorite Food
Posted on June 18, 2011
Oxfam did a very interesting global poll about people's favorite foods. The NGO polled 16,000 people in 17 countries asking "what is your favorite food?" Asking the poll question this way led to some interesting results. Some people gave specific answers, but others gave generic answers such as "meat."
The numbers were crunched, and a world's favorite food list was compiled. So, what is the world's favorite food? It's pasta. It's followed by meat, rice and chicken. Some countries went for the sweets: Australians' favorite food is chocolate. America's favorite food is pizza. The British prefer steak, then pasta, above all foods.
Kenyans' favorite food is ugali, a maize porridge. Mexicans prefer Mexican food, then Chinese food. Spaniards prefer paella above all other foods, with pasta coming in second.. Russians listed the generic "Meat" followed by "Potatoes" as their favorite, with Borscht coming in fourth.
The list seems to indicate that people prefer filling, hearty food when asked about their favorite foods, without any prompting or multiple choice answers. Chocolate and fruit didn't even make the top ten.
Here is the list of the world's favorite foods:
- Pasta
- Meat
- Rice
- Pizza
- Chicken
- Fish and seafood
- Vegetables
- Chinese
- Italian
- Mexican
