Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing is collaborating with Nike on a new collection. The collection is called Nikelab x Olivier Rousteing. It is about Rousteing's love of football (or soccer in the U.S.)
Rousteing says in a statement, "Fashion is usually about the catwalk and the glamour, but with Nike it was about performance and the athletes. What I love about this collection is that we are integrating the iconic style of football into sport style."
The collection features black and gold colors. Accents include gold framing, riri zippers, aglets and eyelets. The footwear is also in black and gold. The footwear includes styles inspired by Nike Football's four silos: Mercurial, Magista, Hypervenom and Tiempo.
NikeLab Senior Footwear Innovation Design Director Nate Jobe says in a statement, "Olivier is meticulous about the details, with a passion for finding clever ways to embellish existing structures. This obsession with finishing manifests itself especially well in the Magista and the Mercurial. In each model, we've embroidered patterns into the Flyknit for the first time, which creates a completely new expression of the technology."
Rousteing talks about the Nikelab collection in this video. He says black and gold is chic and timeless. He also says the gold is about victory and winning. He says the N98 jacket is his favorite piece. The campaign features French soccer stars Blaise Matuidi and Laure Boulleau. The collection will be available starting June 2nd on nike.com/nikelab and in select NikeLab stores. Take a look:
