Nishi Style Impossible Burger

Momofuku Nishi has added the animal-free Impossible Burger from Impossible Foods to its menu. The burger made from plants is said to look, cook, smell, sizzle and taste like conventional ground beef. A plant-based heme protein gives the burger its meaty taste.

Momofuku chef and founder David Chang says in a statement, "I was genuinely blown away when I tasted the burger. The Impossible Foods team has discovered how to re-engineer what makes beef taste like beef. We're always looking to support people who are making the best products in the best ways possible and to me, the Impossible Burger is one more example. First and foremost, we think this makes a delicious burger."

The key ingredients in the Impossible Burger are water, wheat protein, coconut oil, potato protein and leghemoglobin (heme) plus natural flavors and micronutrients. Impossible Foods says the burger has comparable protein and iron to conventional beef but contains no cholesterol, hormones, or antibiotics.

The company plans to expand to additional restaurants in the U.S. It also plans to offer the its meatless burger at grocery stores and overseas markets over the coming several years. Impossible Foods is based in Redwood City, California.
