The Lidl grocery supermarket chain has arrived in the U.S. The German-based discount grocery retailer will open 20 stores in the U.S. this summer. They plan to have up to 100 stores across the East Coast by the end of summer 2018. Lidl also announced that Heidi Klum will launch and sell a new fashion collection at Lidl locations later this year.
Lidl US President and CEO Brendan Proctor says in a statement, "Lidl is grocery shopping refreshed, retooled and rethought to make life better for all our customers. From our selection of sustainable products like our certified fresh and frozen seafood to top-quality wines from around the world available at market-beating prices, our team puts extra effort and attention into each product we put on our shelves. When customers shop at Lidl, they will experience less complexity, lower prices, better choices, and greater confidence."Heidi Klum says, "Lidl is known for making quality products at affordable prices and I'm proud to partner with them on this fashion collaboration. I had so much fun designing the pieces in this collection and can't wait for you to see it. I hope you love it as much as I do!"
Lidl is a discount grocer but they have non-food surprises like kitchen appliances, toys, fitness gear and the Heidi Klum collection. They will offer fresh baked goods and organic products. They say they will offer groceries up to 50% less than other supermarkets in the U.S. They also carry a large number of exclusive products. Lidl operates about 10,000 stores in Europe.
Lidl and Heidi also collaborate on collections in other countries, such as Ireland and run campaigns like this one:
