Philadelphia Zoo Unveils Creatures Of Habitat Lego Brick Animal Exhibit
Posted on April 11, 2010
The Philadelphia Zoo debuted life-size Lego brick animals with the Creatures of Habitat: A Gazillion-Piece Animal Adventure. The exhibit will run through October 31. It features amazing Lego sculptures of endangered or threatened species. The Lego animals sculptured were created by Sean Kenny.
Kenny is one of only six Lego certified professional artisans in the world. The species represented in the sculptures come from all over the world including Borneo, Brazil, the Arctic Circle and Africa. The animals represented in the sculpture range in size from a 500-pound polar bear to the delicate golden lion tamarin, which usually weighs less than one pound. Over 30 creatures were made for the exhibit.
Images of the sculptures can be found on seankenny.com. Here's an interview with Kenny about the cool animal sculptures he built.
Philadelphia Zoo ceo Vikram Dewan says in a statement, "Creatures of Habitat extends and expands upon our important conservation work that has gained focus and impact through our 150th anniversary celebration. Every child - and adult for that matter - can relate to the universal desire to protect our planet, this place we all call home. A key principle of this exhibit is to show how our world fits together and we all connect with it."
The exhibit also came to Zoo Miami. Here's a video featuring the polar bear sculpture.
