KFC Launches Edible Nail Polish in Hong Kong
Posted on May 9, 2016
KFC has launched an unusual edible nail polish in Hong Kong. It is available in two flavors, Original and Hot & Spicy, just like its chicken. This is not a belated April Fool's joke. We hope it does not spark a weird edible nail polish trend.
Adweek reports that Ogilvy & Mather worked with experts at the McCormick spice company to develop the KFC nail polish. The flavors were sourced from the ingredients used in the KFC recipes.
You can put the nail polish on and then lick your fingers to taste the KFC flavor. KFC says in a statement, "To use, consumers simply apply and dry like regular nail polish, and then lick—again and again and again."
Ogilvy creative director John Koay tells Adweek, "The recipe for our edible nail polish is unique and was specifically designed to hold the flavor, but to also dry with a glossy coat similar to normal nail polish. This campaign is designed to be intriguing and fun to increase excitement around the KFC brand in Hong Kong."
KFC also released this unusual video for the nail polish project. The nail polish is initially being made in limited quantities. Hong Kong residents are being invited to select the best nail polish flavor which will then be produced for the masses. Take a look:
