Gucci to Open Dubai Hotel

>Bloomberg Business is reporting that Gucci is opening a luxury hotel in Dubai.

The first hotel will open by the end of 2010. The hotels are being opened by the Gucci founder's great granddaughter, Elisabetta.

Lorens Ziller, the managing director for Elisabetta Gucci Hotels says the first ever Gucci hotel will open in Dubai's Media City by the end of the year.

The building has been completed, but work on the 87-suite interior has yet to start, Ziller said in a phone interview on Monday. Gucci also plans hotels in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Oman and China.

Plans for the Gucci Dubai hotel were first announced by Elisabetta Gucci Hotels in 2008. The plans include a hotel with 80 suites, 2 penthouses and one royal suite. Amenities were to include concierge, 24-hour room service, spa, gymnasium, swimming pool, in-room office space, limousine service and more.

Armani is also in the luxury hotel business. Armani opened Armani Hotel Dubai, a new luxury hotel in Dubai, in April.

Update: Elisabetta Gucci's plans for the Dubai hotel chain has been blocked by Gucci. The EG Hotels were going to feature furniture designed by her and constructed by Formitalia.
