Save the Greek Goddess, Save the Golden Globes
Posted on January 17, 2007
The ladies from the hit show Heroes really stole the spotlight at their first Golden Globes appearance. Hayden Panettiere who stars as the high school cheerleader Claire Bennett (Save the Cheerleader, Save the World!) looked amazing in her greek goddess-inspired white column gown by Monique Lhuillier. Her updo with trailing tendrils makes her look like a Greek goddess come to life. It's amazing what a pro she is at walking the red carpet at such a young age (17) -- the girl really knows how to work those poses.
Ali Larter, who also stars on Heroes as Niki Sanders, the woman who is sort of a gorgeous blond version of the Hulk, (we just love that show, by the way -- can you tell?) wore a stunning cream-colored gown by Reem Acra with a plunging neckline. She accessorized with a diamond bracelet and a rhinestone-encrusted evening clutch.
Jennifer Garner looked lovely (as always) in a white and silver Gucci gown. She wore her hair down with soft curls. Drew Barrymore looked fabulous in a pale pink Grecian-style gown made by John Galliano for Christian Dior. She accessorized with diamonds from Leviev and a flattering updo.
The Grecian theme was in full swing this year, and it's a trend of which we heartily approve. Classic is always in. Another trend was big hair (we love that too; we are so tired of the flat head for evening) and lots of elegant diamonds and jeweled evening bags. It wasn't a colorful event. Most actresses went for either white, black or grey, with a couple of standouts who wore purple or blue. For the Golden Globes, it's best to pick a gown that reflects classical elegance. And, unless you are Bjork, the same rules hold for the Oscars.
But Beyonce -- alas -- did not get the memo. She wore a stunning -- but highly inappropriate -- metallic gold gown, cut down to there, which would have worked perfectly for the Grammys or the MTV Music Awards. As it was, it looked like she was doing a scene from Dreamgirls, not emerging as a serious actress. Great dress, wrong venue. Time for another stylist to get a pink slip.
