Graff Buys 373 Carat Rough Diamond for $17.5 Million

Posted on June 11, 2017

Graff has purchased a huge 373 carat rough diamond from the Lucara Diamond Corp. The diamond was found in the Karowe mine in Botswana in 2015. The Telegraph reports that Graff says the diamond is a 373.72-carat D-colour, Type IIA rough diamond with the potential to "yield a significant polished stone."

Graff could do something amazing with the diamond like they did with a rough diamond found in the Letseng mine in Lesotho. It was cut and polished to become the heart-shaped Graff Venus.

Graff diamonds chairman Laurence Graff says in the announcement, "Every diamond has an inner script that we must read and respect. We will now spend time discovering the secrets of this magnificent stone. Knowing that nature has given us this extraordinary gift, we take on the great responsibility of releasing its inner beauty."

Update: The diamond was made into the fabulous Graff Infinity Diamond.
