Marchesa Co-Founder Georgina Chapman Talks the Frenzy of Oscar Season
Posted on February 13, 2012
CNN's Alina Cho reports on Marchesa, a design line that is seen on every major red carpet. Founder Georgina Chapman talked about how excited she and partner Keren Craig were when Renee Zellweger wore one of their gowns on the red carpet. The new brand had no budget and the designers decided to focus on dressing celebrities as a way to get publicity.
Georgina admits that it didn't hurt that her husband is one of the most powerful people in Hollywod: Harvey Weinstein. But she says with a laugh that women don't listen to Harvey about what to wear.
However women first heard about Marchesa is irrelevant. If the brand's gowns weren't fabulous, no one would still be wearing them, no matter how many arms Harvey twisted.
Georgina -- who is currently a judge on Project Runway: All Stars -- also talks about the madness leading up to the Oscars and how they get ready for the rush with all night sewing sessions.A transcript of the interview can be found on cnn.com.
