Esquire Publishes E-Ink October Issue
Posted on September 24, 2008
>Esquire released a special E-ink issue with its October, 2008 issue. You might have already seen the issue blinking and flashing on magazine newsstands. Here's a video about the Esquire issue that shows the blinking headline on the cover.
There is also an electronic advertisement on the inside cover for the 2009 Ford Flex. A limited number of the special issues were published. Boing Boing Gadgets is very disappointed by what they see but you have to give kudos to Esquire for trying something novel. The New York Times says the magazine will lose power after 90 days - those battery powered blinking headlines can only blink for so long.
Esquire's e-ink issue looks interesting but we are more excited about Plastic Logic's technology which is coming out in 2009. That looks more like the kind of digital magazine reader you can browse through while you are sitting in front of the tv or enjoying a latte at Starbucks.
