Emma Watson Talks Gender Equality in British Vogue September Issue

Posted on August 11, 2015

Actress Emma Watson graces the cover the September 2015 issue of British Vogue. She's wearing a jacquard top and miniskirt by Stella McCartney. Her jewelry includes a Vickisarge ear cuff and earrings by Tim Binns. The cover shoot was photographed by Josh Olins.

Emma also reflected on how acting has changed for her since her famous role as Hermoine in the Harry Potter franchise. She says, "It's something I've really wrestled with. I've gone back and I've quizzed my parents. When I was younger, I just did it. I just acted. It was just there. So now when I receive recognition for my acting, I feel incredibly uncomfortable. I tend to turn in on myself. I feel like an imposter... It was just something I did."

Emma also discussed taking on the role of Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women. She says, "Part of me relaxed after I took on that position, it gave me a sense of belonging and purpose. Everything clicked in to place, in a way that it hadn't before. I understood what I'm here to do and knew where to channel all this energy that has been coming at me. I now feel this sense of peace. People say that I'm different since I did it."

Emma talked about gender equality in the film for British Vogue. She is a supporter of the UN HeForShe movement for gender equality. Emma helped introduce HeForShe in a speech last year at the United Nations that viraled around the Internet. It that speech Emma noted that there is no country in the world that can say it has achieved gender equality.

In the Vogue video, Emma says she has seen some positive steps in the fashion industry towards equality but she says there is still racism and sexism. Take a look:
