Mattel's Talking Doll Accused of Promoting Islam
Posted on October 16, 2008
A talking doll from Fisher-Price called Little Mommy Cuddle N' Coo is being accused of spreading a religious message. Some parents believe that the doll says, "Islam is the light." Mattel denies these accusations and is refusing to pull the doll from store shelves. Mattel says the doll says the word "mama.'
KRCG purchased one of the controversial dolls to see if they could hear what they outraged parents are hearing. The dolls had been pulled at the local Walmart and Target stores so they had to travel to Jefferson City where the dolls were still on store shelves.
KRCG tested the doll on people in a store parking lot. They report that "No one came up with the phrase, "Islam is the light," on their own."
Another article says people think the doll is saying "Satan is King." Mattel insists the doll is only programmed to say "mama" and they say this is a "phenomenon caused by the doll's cheap built-in speakers." At least the controversy has Mattel admitting the doll has cheap speakers. You can hear the doll in the video below. It really isn't clear exactly what the doll is trying to say but it doesn't sound like "mama."
