Scarlett Johansson Face on New Dolce & Gabbana Cosmetics Line
Posted on January 16, 2009
Dolce and Gabbana is launching its first cosmetics collection next month. The pair tapped top makeup artist Pat McGrath to consult on the colors and feel of the line.
Stefano Gabbana told WWD, "We see makeup as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the makeup line like we work on a clothing collection - you can change makeup like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood."
He says the core piece of the new beauty collection is lipstick and it will have a scent. Gabbana explained why: "We noticed that lipsticks on the market took away their fragrance, but we wanted to create makeup with a scent. Domenico and I remember when we were children and opened our mother's handbags - the scent of her lipstick trailed out. I observed that when women open makeup, they smell it first."
What naughty little boys to be peeking into their mothers' handbags! But we'll try to be forgiving if in the future a little boy informs us that he's only peeking in our handbag to smell our makeup. He might be the worlds' next great designer.
Gabbana also told WWD that if the cosmetics collection sells well, a skin care line could be next. It's interesting that they are shying away from the current trend of eliminating fragrance from makeup. Being the lipstick junkies that we are, we can't wait to try this new collection. Oh, and doesn't Scarlett Johansson look amazing in the ads?
Update: Now this second image has been released and in this photo, Scarlett eschews the red lipstick and instead is wearing a pale palette of colors. Red lipstick or nude, she looks incredible.
