Hardware Stores Target Women With Do It Herself Events

Posted on March 16, 2004

Hardware stores have started to target women and make their stores more women friendly after studies indicated that more women are visiting home product stores like Home Depot and Lowe's and spending more time and money on do-it-yourself projects.

The marketing switch also occurs as the popularity of home improvement cable shows like Trading Spaces rise. Have you noticed any woman-friendly changes at your hardware store?

Home Depot has jumped on the trend by holding "Do It Herself" workshops and people are attending them in droves. Philly.com says Home Depot revealed the workshops received nearly 40,000 female attendees in 1,500 of its stores last week.

Home Depot also conducted a survey that found 57% of women have bought a tool in the past week and 69% want to become more knowledgeable in making home repairs.

Here's coverage of one of the Do-It-Herself events at Home Depot from azfamily.
