Cadillac Escalade SUV Is Top Thief Target

The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) has filed a report on its latest insurance claim theft study. HLDI reports that car thieves pick the Cadillac Escalade SUV as their number one target, according to a report from . The Cadillac Escalade has the highest theft claim frequency, followed by the Dodge Stratus Midsize, the Mitsubishi Mirage Small, Jeep Wrangler 4WD and the Lincoln Navigator 2WD.

The Cadillac Escalade not only leads the study, but it leads it by a good margin. Cadillac Escalade 4WD Large SUV has a theft claim frequency of 10.3 in 1,000 insured vehicles. The average for all cars is 2.6 and the second place Dodge Stratus had a theft rate of 8.7 per 1,000 insured vehicles. So, the high theft is something to think about if you are about to buy a Cadillac Escalade.

Thieves manage to steal the Ecalades despite equipped with standard antitheft ignition immobilizers. Kim Hazelbaker, HLDI senior vice president, said in a statement, That "even though Escalades have the latest immobilizer technology, thieves still can put them on flatbeds and haul them away."
