Brie Larson on the 2016 Oscars red carpet

Brie Larson won Best Actress at the 99th annual Academy Awards for her role in Room. Brie looked lovely on the red carpet in a custom Gucci lapis blue silk organza gown which featured a plissé, cascading ruffle skirt. At the waist she wore a navy velvet black crystal and pearl embroidered belt with jeweled flowers. Gucci began working on the gown in December, just after Brie was nominated.

Brie's stylist Christina Ehrlich told The Telegraph that the idea for the gown began with the color. She and Brie chose the color then went to find a couturier. They chose Alessandro Michele and the house of Gucci for Brie's big night.

Alessandro Michele had never designed an Oscars dress before and that was a big draw for Christian who explained, "It was important for us to work with a designer who is very fresh on the scene. Alessandro has never designed for the Oscars before - like Brie, he is new to Gucci, just as she is still discovering who she is as an actor on the red carpet and this also being her first Oscars."
