Badgley and Mischka: Spring 2011
Posted on September 15, 2010
Mark Badgley and James Mischka presented their Spring 2011 ready to wear collection at New York Fashion Week. Inspired by the movie White Mischief, which was based on the 1941 Happy Valley murder case in Kenya, in which Sir Henry "Jock" Delves Broughton was tried for the murder of Josslyn Hay, Earl of Erroll.
The collection took a retro sensibility updated for today's woman. The look is proper on the outside and "debauched underneath." That pretty much sums up the movie, as we recall.
The look was very sophisticated, with lots of flowing chiffon gowns in pastel colors, lovely beading and metallic macrame embellishments. One of our favorite gowns was of silver and rose colored satin. It was lingerie-inspired and had a lovely peignoir over it. There were lots of high-waisted shorts and pants, cute tops and lots of day dresses. The show featured mixed pieces from the couture, ready to wear and sportswear line. The hair was pure late 1930s meets 1970s disco, with full crimping in effect. The designers did say that they were influenced by some 70s and 80s trends, as well. Take a look:
