Amazon Launches Minions Themed Boxes

Posted on June 4, 2015

Amazon has found a clever use for the many boxes it delivers. They have partnered with Universal Pictures for Minions themed boxes. The colorful yellow boxes feature the cute Minions characters. The boxes come ahead of the release of the Minions movie, which arrives in theaters on July 10.

The marketing concept gives Amazon an opportunity to bring in revenues through its packaging, which could help cover some of the cost of postage. The arrangement between Amazon and Universal Pictures for this particular deal has not been disclosed. The Minions boxes have generated excitement on social media. There are many people on Twitter saying they plan to keep the boxes.

The L.A. Times reports that the Minions packaging comes in a variety of different sizes. Amazon's Seth Dallaire told the Times, "We're thrilled ... to bring more Minions’ magic to the Amazon shopping experience, and for the opportunity to delight these fans through experiences both on our sites and - in many cases – in their homes via Minions-branded boxes."

TechCrunch reports that this is the first time Amazon has let a third party puts its brand on its delivery boxes. The packages also link to a section on Amazon that carries numerous Minions merchandise.

Another recent clever Minions promotion was the official Minions color, Minion Yellow, introduced by Pantone. The official color and Amazon boxes are both great marketing ideas. We are curious as to where else the Minions might appear with the film still over a month away.
