Posted on April 24, 2012
Models Kim Alexis, Kelly Emberg and Elena Davis came on the Today Show to talk about how things have changed for models since the 80s and 90s. The industry has gone through many changes since the 80s, such as the use of digital photography and the use of celebrities on magazine covers.
Kelly Emberg says, "I think there are more actresses that are doing the fashion and the beauty ads. You see them on covers of all the magazines now. There's not that many models now. I mean there's a few, but in our day we were on all the covers."
Elena Davis said the models are actual brands these days. Kim Alexis said the retouching done on today's covers and editorial photos puts pressure on women.
Kim Alexis said, "That puts pressure on women in general who watch us, who think that' we're perfect, and they're not and they're never going to be that way. And we don't want people to feel that way - the body image and that worrying about being perfect. Nobody's perfect. We don't feel we're perfect."
