Aldi Supermarket Chain Starts Accepting Credit Cards

Posted on March 2, 2016

The Aldi supermarket chain has start accepting credit cards for the first time. It will accept Visa, Master Card and American Express at all its stores. The German-based retailer has 1,500 stores in 32 states.

Aldi CEO Jason Hart says in the announcement, "As ALDI continues to evolve by expanding its product lines and moving into new markets, the way we do business will continue to evolve as well. We care about being able to make our customers' shopping experiences simpler and better every time they come to see us; and offering them the convenience of using their credit cards will help us do just that."

Aldi currently has a message on its homepage, aldi.us, that says "OMG! We finally accept credit cards." It is clear this is something consumers have been asking for. The company still does not accept checks.

Aldi also continues its U.S. expansion. Aldi will open its first stores in Southern California later this month. They aim to have about 2,000 stores in the U.S. by the end of 2018.
